Sumatera forest entry Endangered sites





World Heritage Comitee, the annual meeting held in Paris on Wednesday (06/22/2011) and then, adding a tropical rain forest in Sumatra in World Endangered Sites list (List of World Heritage in Danger). Damaging activity occurring in the region encourage the addition of the region in Endangered Sites List.
Since 2004, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) encourage the inclusion of forests of Sumatra in the list of endangered sites. In monitoring for 5 years, IUCN and UNESCO found that Sumatra's forests need restoration soon. Road construction, agriculture, and plantations are the major threat to this forest.
"The entry of tropical rain forests of Sumatra in the list of endangered sites is a message for the world to support the preservation of this site. The Committee has taken the decision after the debate for years. We need to ensure that it encourages real steps to overcome existing threats," said Peter Suide, senior advisor on World Heritage IUCN.
Apart from Sumatra forest, other areas are now also entered the list of endangered sites is the backup bisofer Rio Platano in Honduras, an area consisting of forests, mangrove areas, coastal lagoon, and the savanna is included in the list are threatened due to lack of law enforcement so that the activity of the rampant destruction.
Kenza Mariam Ali, the IUCN World Conservation Officer said, "We fully support the inclusion of the Rio Platano included in the List of World Heritage in Danger and signaled the need to support the protection of this region, where the 2000 indigenous peoples to continue their lives by relying on nature."
List of World Heritage in Danger was created so that local governments and the international support the preservation of certain areas. Previously, the Virgin Komi Forest in Russia and Machu Picchu, known as peradaaban Inca relics have been included in this endangered list.
