Mt Lokon Activity Difficult to Predic

Mt Lokon activity is very difficult to predict, and the public are therefore told to stay alert after the shocks.

North Sulawesi Governor SH Sarundajang said Mt Lokon activity is very difficult to predict, and the public are therefore told to stay alert after the shocks.
The volcano has given no signs of activities, except some glowing lava and volcanic ash, which need to be watched out," the governor said when visiting the Mt Lokon monitoring post and the locations of evacuees in Tomohon on Friday.
Since the eruption on July 10, 2011, the cauldron produced volcanic ash preceded by a deep volcanic quake and superficial volcanic shake. There is always a possibility of an unexpected major eruption and there is no need for the people to panic when it happens.
The former inspector general of the Home Affairs Ministry has also asked the regional administration to stay vigilant in dealing the Mt Lokon disaster, and continue evacuating the eruption victims.
The governor when inspecting the Mt Lokon monitoring post received direct reports from the local disaster officials that in the wake of the eruption on Thursday night the volcano produced glowing hot lava, and there were still some volcanic shocks with a low intensity.
Unlike the previous activity in the critical phase in the night, there had been 60 deep volcanic shocks and 30 superficial ones with an amplitude of 5-4 millimeters. The volcanic ash spread and expanded up to several kilometers along with glowing hot lava, forcing many residents to evacuate to safe places.
The governor renewed his calls on the disaster officials at the monitoring post to immediately report the developments toward the worse. He also received reports from an emergency team that the number of residents being evacuated continue to increase now reaching more than 4,400, mostly from Kinilow Satu, Kinilow Dua, and Kakaskasen villages.
