Long Line of Trucks Again Seen in Merak

MERAK, - A line of thousands of trucks was on Friday seen again at Cikuasa Atas, Banten province, waiting to enter Merak port for the ferry service to Sumatra.
"No queue of trucks was seen on the toll road but it was based on monitoring at 1.46 am just now," PT Marga Mandala Sakti staffer Nasrudin said here on Friday.
Kodir, a truck driver carrying staple foods to Palembang, South Sumatra, said he had been in line from the Cikuasa Atas flyover in Merak, Cilegon, since 7.15 am.
"I have been in line for several hours. I heard from the ASDP (ferry service company) that the line would not be too long and they need not spend the night on the road," he said.
He said however he was pessimistic. "How could I believe in them. What has happened so far is I always have to queue in Cikuasa for days," he said.
Achim Hashari shared his view saying that a long queue in the Merak port was a common view. "What is certain is if a long line has occurred it would take days to cut," he said.
He however said that he could understand the situation. "I understand the situation in the country. We have a lot of shortcomings," he said.
For the future he hoped solutions could be found so that the problem could be overcome.
"I heard there would be more roro (roll on roll off) boats coming. I hope the boats are seaworthy."
